Date For 2022 BRIT Awards Announced

Back

The organisers of the annual BRIT Awards have announced that the 2022 edition will take place at the O2 Arena in London, UK on 8 February.

Also known as ‘the BRITs’, the awards platform, which was first held in 1977, is the British Phonographic Industry’s annual celebration of popular music.

The organisers say next year’s show will build on successes chalked in previous years, celebrating British and international artists and their achievements over the past year.

At last year’s ceremony, British rapper of Gambian descent J Hus won the Male Solo Artist trophy, edging fellow artists AJ Tracey, Headie One, Joel Corry and Yungblud to win his first BRIT Award.

Accepting the award on behalf of J Hus, DJ Semtex described the rapper as “an incredible artist” and “one of the greatest.”

The English DJ, author and podcast host lauded the rapper as one behind “music that makes our days a little bit easier, our lives a little bit easier. If he was here tonight, I know he would want to big up his family, friends, team and all the fans who have been with him from day one.”

Nigeria’s Burna Boy lost in the International Male Solo Artist category to Canadian singer The Weeknd.

Meanwhile, Polydor co-president Tom March is taking over the BRIT Committee for 2022 and comedian Jack Whitehall has stepped down as host of the awards after four years.

“Sad to say after 4 brilliant years, I’ll be handing on the baton as I’ll be in the US filming another project at the top of next year,” Whitehall tweeted. “All the best to the new host, I pray they treat Mursy, my mixers and sweet little Nialler with the respect they deserve,” he added.

Further campaign announcements are expected to be made in the coming months.
